How to spot problems before they become your problem

Turn early signals into useful alerts so manageable issues do not become incidents.

Most people encounter problems when they arrive. The signal was often visible earlier in an aging task, stalled escalation, drifting metric, or missed response.

Checking depends on memory. Monitoring defines what matters, sets the conditions for surfacing it, and lets a system watch. Start with a few high-value signals where early detection creates meaningful lead time.

Ask your AI to scan your weekly context for those signals, or connect it to the systems where your work lives. A task one day late may need a message; three weeks late becomes a credibility and relationship problem.

Proactive work is not a personality trait. Build the system that makes it sustainable.

This is part of the Your AI Chief of Staff series, a practical guide to building a personal operating system for knowledge work.
